Marked By Grace: Day 36
Sacrificial Love and Costly Worship
Scripture: Mark 14:1-11
Reflection:
This passage presents a stark contrast between the sacrificial act of worship by the woman who anoints Jesus and the betrayal planned by Judas Iscariot. The woman’s anointing Jesus with expensive perfume is a profound expression of devotion and recognition of His worth, even though it draws criticism for its extravagance. Jesus defends her action as preparation for His burial, highlighting the significance of her deed. In contrast, Judas' agreement to betray Jesus for money reflects a heart turned away from true devotion to Christ. This juxtaposition invites us to examine our acts of worship and devotion to Jesus, considering their sincerity and depth.
Questions for Contemplation:
1. Sacrificial Worship: What does the woman’s act of anointing Jesus teach you about the nature of true worship and devotion?
2. Understanding Jesus' Worth: How can you reflect a similar recognition of Jesus’ worth in your expressions of worship and devotion?
3. Examining Motives: How can you examine your motives and commitment to Jesus in light of Judas' betrayal?
Prayer Focus:
Pray for a heart that offers true and sacrificial worship to Jesus, recognizing His worth and significance in your life. Ask for the ability to worship in ways that are sincere and pleasing to God, not influenced by others’ opinions. Seek introspection to ensure your devotion to Christ is genuine and not marred by ulterior motives.
